Start Claims Here
Chapter 23 Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) assist veterans and their families in receiving their earned benefits from service in the U.S. Military.
If you are filing a new VA disability claim, an increase, an appeal, or just don't know where to start, follow this checklist.
Quick Checklist
- Contact a VSO to review your situation and build the right plan. See our VSOs.
- Gather key documents: DD214, VA/DoD letters, medical records (civilian + VA), medication list, and (if applicable) marriage/birth certificates.
- Write down your timeline: when the condition started, where you were treated, and how it impacts work and daily life.
- Don't send SSNs by email. Use secure VA channels or meet in person.
- Track your claim and respond quickly to VA requests for evidence.
